Meenie and the case of the sore-throat bandit

Yesterday, I received a call from the school nurse.

Hi, I have Meenie in my office and she says has a sore throat, stomach ache and her head hurts. Her tonsils look a little swollen but she's not running a fever. So it's up to you if you want her to go back to class or if you want to come pick her up. She says she leaves school before lunch usually anyway.

Of course, Meenie wanted to come home. The call came at 10:30, and I usually pick her up at 11:30. She's been complaining of a sore throat for a week now*, however, she's had no other symptoms. So I picked her up at 10:45 (a whole 45 minutes before I normally do, no big deal.

The kicker came a little while later.

I went to the nurse with kid-with-a-cut-who-needed-a-band-aid. The gym teacher sent me with her to walk with her.

So, you didn't go to the nurse because you were sick?

Well, my throat did hurt.

So let me recap, my kid with a sore throat who was fine yet brought a friend to the nurse who needed to go to the nurse got sent home early.

Um yeah. Apparently she's figured out how to buck the system, and she's only in pre-K. Thankfully, she has three days left and didn't figure it out during the winter. Let's hope she forgets about it over the summer.

* I am taking her to the doctor's this morning, because it has been sore for awhile. We'll see what he says.

I didn't even think about that. So I have this to look forward to next year when my son's in pre-k? I'm surprised by the school nurse.
