Photo Hunt Saturday - Reflection

Tis the season!

This was Moe checking out a new christmas ornament today. I love how I caught her reflection in the ornament.

Photo Hunt Saturday - Ruin(ed)

We love to hike. As a result, we've come across many ruins in the woods. From old home foundations in empty, overgrown fields to old dams to many stone walls. We've found broken crypts in some of our cemetery jaunts and broken picnic tables off the beaten path. There are many oddities out there, you just need to find them.

Here is a picture of an old dam, taken at our favorite hiking spot.

Photo Hunt Saturday - Together

It's been awhile since I participated in Photo Hunt Saturday. I really enjoyed it and felt like it was time click back into it.

This is one of my favorite photos of my two older girls together. It was taken last year when I was taking their pictures for our annual holiday picture.

Here is a picture of the three of them together, taken at the same time last year.

The one thing we've been very fortunate with as a family, is we all generally like being together, no matter what we are doing. And the three girls, love playing together. I just love catching them reading, playing, creating together, without any adult interference.

Photo Hunt Staurday - Pink

You would think with three young girls, I would have plenty of pink pictures to share. But they don't wear much pink. These little guys were at a local agricultural fair earlier this fall. We were watching them when one of them decided it was lunch time and started squealing. When these nine and the seven in the pen next to them are all squealing at once, it's quite a noise. It scared the girls it was so loud!

I'm sure you've all seen the pink in the store's this month. Every thing from candy to appliances has gone pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. WhyMommy over at Toddler Planet has been battling a rare type of Breast Cancer called Inflammatory Breast Cancer. She's been bringing awareness through her blog and has recently been featured in magazines and on FOX news. Go visit her and see some lovely pink pictures from the Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure. With the love of family and Friends, she was able to participate!

Photo Hunt Saturday - Practical

I was having a hard time trying to come up with the "perfect" picture for this week's hunt. But this morning, it sort of just appeared. What can be more practical than a pair of scissors. There are many types of scissors out there, made to cut a variety of things. The scissors I have are kid scissors.

Tune in later for how this post came to be and the practical uses for kid scissors.

Photo Hunt Saturday - Smelly

I knew once I saw the topic, which photo I would post. This is a piece of skunk cabbage in the spring. While it wasn't stinky when we say it - it had yet to grow the leaves, its a smell easily identified in our neck of the woods. Found primarily in wetlands and swampy areas, it's pretty easy to spot. It's smell isn't too bad unless you break off a leaf, and then it's pretty foul.

Photo Hunt Saturday - Curvy

Today we took the girls to the local orchard to pick some pumpkins to bring to a friends' Harvest Party. Just look at the curves on these pumpkins! Like apple picking last week in 90 degree weather, picking pumpkins when it was above 80 just didn't seem right. The Harvest Party will likely be fun, but with such autumn staples like pot pie, homemade bread, warm cider, pies, hot chocolate and a bon fire, I just can't seem to fee l in the festive mood. Hopefully it cools down before they light the bon fire.

Photot Hunt Saturday - Plastic

Last week, while grilling some steaks out on the back deck, we looked up and saw that. While checking Wikipedia for hot air balloons, I noticed it was made of nylon, thus making it fit into this weeks theme of plastic.

Photo Hunt Saturday - Dirty

This week's photo hunt is dirty. Now I have tons of pictures from when the girls were young of them eating. I also have the raspberry picking pictures from the summer where they decided to paint themselves. In fact, I seem to have enough dirty pictures to last a lifetime. We've seem to have come to the conclusion that you are not having fun if your not dirty! The picture I chose is from a birthday party last week. I happened to look down and see Einey's hand like this and had to take a picture of it.

Photo Hunt Saturday - Two

This week's photo hunt is brought to you by the number two. I chose this picture because I felt it best shows the innocence of a two year old. See the hand tightly gripping the stem of a rose? She had just leaned in to take a nice long sniff. She's not always gentle, but she was learning which flowers were okay for her to pick from Mema's garden. For me, I am also drawn to the two big blue eyes looking into the camera. She is the only blue-eyed child in a family of brown-eyed people. I know somewhere along the lines on both sides of the family, there had to have been blue-eyed people. Since the blue-eye gene is recessive, for two brown-eyed people to have a blue-eyed baby is one in four. You would have to hit the double recessive blue-eyed gene from both parents.

Photo Hunt Saturday - Row

This week's photo hunt theme is row. Sometimes I feel like a mother duck with her little ducklings in tow. They like to walk behind me in the grocery store in a "row". In pictures, they are usually sitting in a row next to each other. The photo I am going to share is of the girls sitting in a row while taking a break during a recent letterboxing hike.

Photo Hunt Saturday - Creative

This week's photo hunt theme is creative. While this post itself isn't creative (I recycled it from April) the shoes are rather creative. The girls love wearing their funky shoes out.

Photo Hunt Saturday - Tiny

This week's photo hunt theme is Tiny. While browsing my pictures, I came across quite a few that fit the theme, but narrowed it down to two.

The first is a picture of some aphids on the stem of an Dahlia plant. See them? They are the tiny yellow things. See the ants? They are "milking" the aphids for their honeydew secretions. It's true - I even checked here. This is something I observed last year and didn't believe Husband when he told me. I should have believed him, after all, he was right about Ant Lions and other odd facts I never knew.

The second picture is of a yellow crab spider hiding camouflaged on a sunflower.

Photo Hunt Saturday - Shadow

This week's photo hunt theme is shadow. I knew exactly what picture I was planning on using ever since I took this photo back in May. This is Moe's shadow taken as we were leaving a day at the lake. Unfortunately, my picture was late as I was having issues with my logging into blogger (and google) yesterday.

Photo Hunt Saturday - Fake

This week's photo hunt theme is fake. I had a hard time finding something fake until I remembered the bag of toppings from our cake in a bucket. The picture is of candy rocks. They taste like M&M's but look like real rocks. We fooled the girls with these! Unfortunately the picture isn't that great, I will see if I can grab a better one in the morning!

Okay, one more shot of the rocks in the cake!

Photo Hunt Saturday - Sweet

This week's photo hunt theme is sweet. I thought about posting pictures of our frequent trips to the ice cream shops this week (or as Moe says, "go get i-crem at the pet shop") but I was too busy eating my ice cream and trying to stay cool that I have no pictures. And while ice cream certainly is sweet, I decided to go with pictures of cakes. The following cakes were my kids birthday cakes. As for their cakes, we try to think outside the box and do original cakes.
EINEY
Einey's 1st Birthday

Einey's 2nd Birthday

Einey's 3rd Birthday
She ended up with two cakes because a friend made one by surprise

Einey's 4th Birthday

Einey's 5th Birthday (Friends)

Einey's 5th Birthday (Family)

MEENIE
Meenie's 1st Birthday
I forgot to buy/make her a cake this year and called Husband in tears the night before. He went the next day and found this cake which matched her theme. Funny story is 2 year old Einey insisted her sister wanted a chocolate cake for a month. When we cut into the cake, we found out it was.... chocolate.

Photo hUnt Saturday - Shiny

This week's photo hunt theme is shiny. Last year, when Meenie was at the Children's hospital, I would often sit under this sculpture to take a few minutes and just breath. Or I would call and update family members. At mid-day, the sun would just shine off the red ball and send color around the room.

Photo Hunt Saturday - Shoes

This week's photo hunt theme is shoes. Shoes are something we definitely are not lacking. My In-Laws insist on buying the girls shoes all the time, regardless of how practical they are. This picture was taken last September at a deserted beach. Moe had lined them up after we had kicked them off.

Photo Hunt Saturday - Art

This week's photo hunt theme is art. Art is a stimulation of the senses. It is unbounded creativity released by an individual for others to experience. There are no boundaries in art.

The picture's that follow are some watercolor art, painted by Einey, Meenie and Moe this evening. As a treat, and because they love all things artsy, I allowed them to paint on the deck after dinner tonight. Unfortunately, we left them out on the deck to dry and got hit with a sudden downpour. By the time I made it outsdie, the paint had all been washed off.

And while I can appriciate art, I am not artist. In fact, you probably don't want to be anywhere near me when I am wielding a paintbrush. Husband on the other hand can usually be found, paintbrush in hand. If you want to view his gallery of work, click here. He has made quite a name for himself painting these figures. In addition, he has designed and drew the program for our daughter's dance studio, gives the girls cool tattoos, and drawn numerous pictures for the kids. I am trying to get him to illustrate a children' s book, but I would guess I would need to find an author first :P

Now if you excuse me, I need to go design/paint a banner for the Kinderbration. This I think I can handle...
